…Leaving a lasting legacy through prayer!
This is chapter 8 in the book ‘Voices of True Womanhood Movement’, by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. ‘Leaving a lasting legacy through prayer’ is written by Fern Nichols. If you have missed the first chapters and would like to read my reviews you may find them here.
‘What do you want your children and friends to remember about you when you’ve gone to be with Jesus?’
Even in our busy lives we need to realize the importance of prayer. It’s ‘the absolute best thing we can do’. Why can’t we stop for even 5 or 10 minutes? We are not realizing that in prayer, God actively intervenes in the areas where we’re feeling the most concerned and stressed out.
We can pray for the future generations of our families. ‘I do not ask for these things only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word.’ John 17:20
Even when our prayers seem to be lying dormant and forgotten, even when ‘we can’t see at the time, God is acting in hidden ways, performing His wonders of redemption.’
When we feel discouraged, call in friends and family to pray with you. Just knowing others care and feeling their support is a tremendous blessing. There is importance in united prayer. ‘Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken’. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 & 12.
–4 Powerful Prayers–
Prayers of Praise-Prayers of praise keep us from being shaken.
Prayers of Confession–Prayers of Confession unleash the tremendous power of our trust worthy God. They become Holy Spirit directed prayers, not-self directed prayers.
Prayers of Thanksgiving-When we are thankful, we can rest in God’s plan for our lives, and we can rejoice that he ’causes all things to work together for good… to those who are called according to his purpose’. Romans 8:28 It changes our whole outlook and attitude.
Prayers of Intercession-Prayers of Intercession is praying for the needs of others, and it is Christ-like to pray this way.
‘In his classic book Purpose in Prayer, E. M. Bounds writes, ‘God shapes the world by prayer. Prayers are deathless. The lips that uttered them may be closed in death, the heart that felt them may have ceased to beat, but the prayers live before God, and God’s heart is set on them and prayers outlive the lives of those who uttered them; outlive a generation, outlive an age, and outlive a world.’
Oh, I want to realize the power of prayer!!! Our lives need it, our families need it, our homes need it, our schools, our communities, our country… if we could only realize the power that lies in prayer! And the lives it can change, beginning with my own!!
